About Us

Devon Churches Green Action promotes and brings a Christian perspective to ecological insights and ethical lifestyles within the churches and communities of Devon. It was formed in 2002 by the amalgamation of Devon Christian Ecology Group and Devon Churches Sustainability Working Group. At present it is administered by the Diocese of Exeter as part of its commitment to the environment and social justice.

DCGA aims to:
  • support low carbon and ecological communities and churches
  • promote and support A Rocha's Eco Church awards in Devon
  • cooperate with other agencies on developing sustainable community life
  • encourage local churches to engage with food issues and projects
  • develop a Devon Earth and FAith Network (DEFAN) across our faith traditions
  • circulate information through newsletters and church magazines
  • develop environmental church policies and practices
  • reflect theologically on green issues
  • promote prayer and worship with an ecological focus
  • support the Shrinking the Footprint campaign for a low carbon church and society
Some of the issues with which DCGA is concerned include:
  • Creation, faith and worship
  • Living churchyards and green burials
  • Local and fairtraded food
  • GM foods debate
  • Ethical investment
  • Environmental Audits
  • Farming and fishing
